A Letter from the Founder

What a great start for 2011 and the vision of Miracle Limbs-Courage in Motion! With the growth of our Volunteer and Corporate Sponsor base, we have been able to expand community awareness and support and therefore the number of amputees we are helping.

Fundraising has been enhanced this year with the selection of Miracle Limbs-Courage in Motion as their charity to support for the year by not one, but two significant organizations in Collier County. Both The Naples Daily News and Hodges University have pledged to support our goals in 2011 with fundraising events and volunteer support organized by employees and students. We are truly honored that two such prestigious institutions in our community have chosen us after only 5 years of operation.

Our main annual fundraising event in March, the Annual Miracle Limbs-Courage in Motion Bike Ride, was a big success for the third year. Although we fell a bit short of our financial goals, we exceeded the last two years’ net incomes, and had much more community involvement, including a speech by Sheriff Rambosk and participation by the CERT and S.W.A.T. teams. The Golden Gate Junior ROTC and the Top Gun cheering team provided great enthusiasm and energy as they cheered and supported the riders. ARTHREX was again our Titled Sponsor and this year Waste Management and CenturyLink joined as significant Corporate Sponsors.  And to our great fortune TREK Bicycle Stores of Naples · Estero once again completely supported us in both organizing and marketing the event. With partners like these Miracle Limbs was able to help Corey Kent (a 23 year-old soldier who lost both legs and a hand in Afghanistan) and his family financially, so that Corey’s Mom could continue to stay with him at Walter Reed Army Hospital while his step-father maintained his job in Cape Coral. We were also able to start the funding for additional amputees as well as begin the infra-structure growth we need to accomplish in the next few months.

Our other annual event, The Annual Miracle Limbs All Species Family Fishing Tournament will once again be held at Hamilton Harbor Yacht Club on October 15. The event includes full BarBQ Buffet provided by Hamilton Harbor as well as one of the best fishing gear silent auctions on the circuit.

We have vetted and hired a grant writer, and continue to seek part time volunteers to assist in tech support, office management and case management support. Our Limb Bank is growing to allow us more ability to assist the amputee needs in underdeveloped countries.  We are also addressing the issue of dedicated office space which will hopefully incorporate an area where amputees, therapists and prostheticians can meet with recipients. If anyone knows of space which could be donated, please let us know!

We have come a long way in the past year, and hope you can join us in the ride for the next.

In Gratitude,

Bob & Diana Ayres, Co-Founders
